PART KIT BUILDING ACTIVITY

PART is pleased to present a new activity: electronic kit building. The all-day event is aimed at both beginner and seasoned kit builder alike with an emphasis on mentoring, learning, and fun. The club-sponsored kit for this event is the Rock-mite by Small Wonder Labs, a 40m QRP transceiver with built-in keyer. Here is a breakdown of the materials builders will receive:
 
·        Small Wonder Labs Rock-mite 40m transceiver kit for 7.030 MHz
·        A “controls kits” for the radio including jacks, knobs, potentiometer – everything needed to make a complete radio
·        A custom enclosure pre-drilled and ready for the radio and controls
·        A connectors accessory grab-bag with:

o       50 ohm BNC terminator (1 watt)
o       3 foot BNC-BNC (male-to-male) cable with RG-58 coax
o       BNC (male) to SO-239 (female) adapter
o       8 foot molded power cable with 2.1mm power connector
·        An 8-watt dummy load parts kit including BNC cable and four 200-ohm 2-watt resistors.
·        A booklet prepared specially for this event with lots of great information on the Rock-mite, parts identification, and more
·        Continental breakfast and pizza lunch are included (plus soda and snacks)

What to bring:
Participants should bring a temperature controlled soldering iron, solder, and small tools such as flush cutters, needle-nose pliers, small screw drivers, and de-soldering items such as solder wick and solder “suckers”. If you do not have these tools, please contact one of the event organizers so items may be provided for you.
 
For those taking The Road Less Traveled:
If you would like to attend but bring your own kit or just offer your elmering advice then the cost of the event is just $20. This covers your share of the food, donation to our host (The United Methodist Church), and booklet. Again, space is limited. Please reserve your spot with Rich, AB1HD.
